Ten sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has still to be made public.
A circulating conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored any factual proof contradicting her allegations in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
